Children of the Century

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I've never seen Juliet Binoche give a bad or even mediocre performance and this is one of her best. Playing George Sand, the 19th century French writer and revolutionary in politics and life, Binoche shows the development of Sand's character as a writer, thinker, and in her affair of the heart and soul with Alfred de Musset, a poet, played with great beauty and energy by Benoit Magimel. The entire cast are excellent, costumes, sets, lighting -- suggesting the pre-electric time -- and the direction. I can't think of a fault. I'm sure there must be some but, caught up in the story and the wonderful performances, I didn't notice. Highly recommended.
