Novelist William Peter Blatty based his best-seller on the last known Catholic-sanctioned exorcism in the United States. Blatty transformed the little boy in the 1949 incident into a little girl named Regan, played by 14-year-old Linda Blair. Thirty Years and Still Impressed

I have been watching horror movies since I was 8 years old ,and although I have forgotten most ; this particular one still gives me chills just thinking about it.
The actors, methods and dialog are pure 70's ; but the essential aspect of the story line gives one food for thought.
Love it or hate it, once watched it is rarely forgotten by the viewer.
