Purple Gown

In this day and age, even an average quality western is an Event. It's an old story about farmers hounded and terrorized out of their land by those with bigger interests (in this case, a sadistic cult leader who thinks God is on his side), and two or three people with old bones to pick. What makes it worth a look is Logan Miller's visual sense. That eye-popping purple gown against the gold-and-white landscape is timeless. And it doesn't hurt that the key characters are played by January Jones, Jason Isaacs, and the redoubtable Ed Harris--and with an unexpected cameo from Amy Madigan.
