In this lush, lurid adaptation of the 1957 Tennessee Williams one-act, Elizabeth Taylor and Katharine Hepburn play a seemingly insane, young New Orleans debutante and the wealthy aunt who wants to lobotomize her. Williams Over the Top

The story and characters seem exaggerated beyond the believable, but this is an engaging depiction of overmannered duplicity, desire and deceit, interrupted and defeated only by a passing kindness of suspect origin. The performance by Katherine Hepburn is compelling.
